Halal Food Venues in Jeonju: Loving Hut and Ahmed’s Asian Cuisine

It’s been two years since overseas travelling has been difficult. At least, with some exotic dishes, we can feel as if we’re travelling to some faraway places. Today, I’ll introduce two restaurants that offer halal dishes.

Many Korean dishes contain pork, which can make visiting restaurants difficult for Muslim or other travellers that don’t eat pork. Hence, Korea Tourism Organization has designated the ‘Muslim Friendly Restaurants’ that offer pork-free or halal dishes.

Loving Hut

One Such place in Jeonju is Loving Hut. It’s a vegan buffet.

Loving Hut is a worldwide vegan franchise. All the ingredients are examined by the headquarter, so that the restaurants are thoroughly vegan.

I loved the texture of the white tree mushroom with a slight hint of curry. The mushroom dishes were overall great.

The pan-fried tofu was kept warm. The restaurant kept refilling the warm tofu.

My favorites were the tomato sauce vegan steak and the soy protein dish. The tomato sauce is made with fresh tomatoes and the vegan ketchup. It tasted very easy on the palate. The texture of the soy protein dish was like the real pork. I ended up taking more than two dishes.

This is the sweet and sour fried saesongi mushroom. I loved the combination of the mushroom’s juice and the texture and the sauce. I’m planning to try this at home.

This is the curry with potato, zucchini, and carrot chunks. The flavor was less artificial and more of original curry spices.

There were organic white rice and organic brown rice. The soybean paste soup with finely chopped pumpkin leaves and mushrooms was offered. The soup dish changes every day.

This was my buffet dish. I had two dishes and a dessert.

The salads were very fresh. Also, I loved the sweet-sourness of the home made 100% strawberry jam.

The coffee was brewed from the beans roasted by barista in Jeonju Hanok Village.

Loving Hut is pay-before-order!

Ahmed’s Asian Cuisine

Ahmed’s Asian Cuisine is a Muslim-run restaurant. The signboard seems quite exotic.

There are only three tables in the restaurant. However, takeaway is a good option in times like now.

The huge photos of the dishes on the menu caught my eyes. I’m not used to the dishes so it took time, but I ordered pita kebab and shawarma.

After ordering, it started smelling nice. Me and my friend’s orders were prepared in 10 minutes. Because of the Covid-19, the foods were offered in disposable dishes.

Inside the pita kebab were beef, chicken, and friend potatoes. The pita bread itself was really soft and nice.

Shawarma contained beef, chicken, lamb, and vegetables. The harmony of the sauce and meats were really nice.

Great information about two different ethnic restaurants in Jeonju City. Great to see that Ahmed’s Asian Cuisine has survived the pandemic. Looks like some comfort food surrounded by pita bread. Also, it is the first time for me to hear about the Loving Hut vegan worldwide franchise. The food looks delicious, especially the authentic curry dish with potatoes. I wonder how many Loving Hut restaurants are located in Korea. Any guesses?
