Getting Around Jeonju with the Bus Number 1000

The bus number 1000 is bit different from the other buses in Jeonju. It stops at the major attractions of the city. The route includes Jeonju Zoo, Jeonju Train Station, Cheotmajung-gil, Jeonbuk National University Main Gate, Jeonju Express Bus Station, Jeonju Intercity Bus Station, Jeonbuk Arts Center, Jeonju Hanok Village, Nambu Market, Jeonju National University of Education, and Daesungdong (the last stop).

Today, we’ll hop on the 1000 Bus and visit Jeonju Zoo, Cheotmajung-gil, Jeonbuk National University Main Gate, Jeonbuk Arts Center, Jeonju Hanok Village, and Jeonju National University of Education.

Jeonju Zoo

Open in 1978, Jeonju Zoo has been one of the local favorite for more than four decades. As an ecological zoo, it focuses on fostering sympathy for the nature, promoting ecological diversity, and preservation of endangered species. Unfortunately, the zoo is currently closed due to the Level 2 Social Distancing.

Cheotmajung-gil

Our next stop is Cheotmajung-gil. It’s a pedestrian street in front of the Jeonju Train Station.

The City of Jeonju created the pedestrian street to give good first-impression to the visitors. It’s a symbol of Jeonju as the city of tourism and culture.

A mobile gallery popped up in front of the Jeonju Train Station. If you have some time before leaving Jeonju via train, I recommend spending some time at Cheotmajung-gil.

Jeonbuk National University Main Gate

This is the only hanok (Korean traditional building) style gate of a university in Korea. I recommend visiting here after sunset, as the night view of the glowing hanok building is fascinating.

Jeonbuk Arts Center

The next stop is Jeonbuk Arts Center. As the center of local arts scene since 1982, the venue holds concerts and exhibitions. Unfortunately, the center is currently closed due to the Level 2 Social Distancing.

Jeonju Hanok Village

Jeonju Hanok Village is the most popular attraction in Jeonju. It’s full of things to see, eat, and experience. I recommend walking the village after sunset. The night view of the Hanok Village is more beautiful under the traditional Korean street lightings. The atmosphere is relaxing and dreamy.

Jeonju National University of Education

Jeonju National University of Education is one of the two national universities in Jeonju. Each province hosts a national university of education to foster primary school teachers.

We took a virtual ride on the 1000 Bus. Let’s wish the coronavirus situation ends soon so that we can visit all the places properly!
