Better at Night: Hanbyeokdang, Omokdae, and Cheongyeonru Pavilions
We’re currently in the middle of summer. Today, I’ll introduce three great spots to spend summer nights in Jeonju Hanok Village. Hanbyeokdang, Omokdae, and Cheongyeonru are nice during the daytime, but even nicer at night, with the cool breeze and beautiful night view.
Hanbyeokdang
To visit Hanbyeokdang or Omokdae, you can walk across Jeonju Hanok Village or park your car at the Jeonju Hanok Village car park. It says the car park is open from 10:00 to 18:30, but it stays open after 18:30.
Don’t cross the Hanbyeokgyo Bridge but go under the bridge. The moon is so bright tonight.
Under the lighting, the atmosphere surrounding the old pavilion at night is somewhat mysterious and elegant. The cool breeze was flowing from the Jeonjucheon River next to the pavilion. Visitors can enter the pavilion, but shoes must be taken off. Also, there may be some mosquitoes attracted to the lighting.
Next to the pavilion is Jeonju Hanbyeok Culture Center. A traditional comedy show was taking place in the outdoor theater.
I see the beautifully lit Omokgyo Bridge in the distance. But my next destination is the Omokdae Pavilion.
Omokdae
Omokdae can be accessed from Jeonju Hanok Village or from the Hanok Village car park. I took the route from the car park. I also suggest visiting the Jaman Mural Village, which is connected via an overpass.
Omokdae is only 5 to 10 minutes’ walk up the stairs. The cool night breeze sweeps the heat away. I took off shoes to enter the pavilion. There were already people inside, probably because Omokdae is rather large.
Sitting on the wooden floor is surprisingly cooling down and refreshing. I stared at the floor and the eaves for a while. It seemed to comfort my mind.
Namcheongyo and Cheongyeonru
I looked down at Jeonju Hanok Village. The lightings made the black tiled roofs of the hanok buildings almost glitter.
Some people were resting in the Cheongyeonru Pavilion and others were enjoying a small street concert over the bridge.
Cheongyeonru, a large pavilion built in the middle of the bridge, is quite popular among both the visitors and the locals. It’s very accessible from the Hanok Village, and the pavilion is quite wide.
The moonlight was beautiful tonight. I also enjoyed the cool breeze blowing over the river. This is just the right place to visit on summer nights.
If you’re having difficulties sleeping at night or just wanting to cool down with a night stroll, I recommend exploring Jeonju Hanok Village at night.
