Kong-guksu (Noodles in Cold Soybean Soup) Venues in Jeonju Geumam-dong District
Cold dishes are the best during warm weather. Today I’ll introduce two kongguksu (noodles in cold soybean soup) venues in Jeonju’s Geumam-dong district.
Geumam Soba
The first venue is ‘Geumam Soba’. The venue already appeared in many television shows and magazines. The quality of food is guaranteed.
I arrived only 10 minutes after the opening time, but I still had to wait in the line. Seems like more people are going for kongguksu lunch in the warm weather.
Kongguksu is 8,000 won, but goppaegi (double portion) is 9,000 won. You can also order the cold soybean soup alone.
Water and additional side dishes (kimchi and sweet pickled radish) are self-serve. The salt and sugar for kongguksu are on the table. Usually, the southwestern part of the country adds sugar, while the rest of the country adds salt.
Kongguksu is served slightly sweet, so make sure to say ‘no sugar’ if you don’t want sweet. The cold soybean soup in this warm weather seemed like heaven. And the potion was pretty big that I didn’t even manage to finish everything. I loved the thick cold soybean soup and the firm texture of the noodle!

Opening hours: 11:00~20:00 (closed on the first and third Tuesdays)
Taepyeongjip
The second venue is ‘Taepyeongjip’. This venue also appeared in media many times. Again, I went during the lunchtime and had to wait for about 15 minutes.
Taepyeongjip is pay-upon-order system. Kongguksu is 8,000 won and goppaegi (‘double portion‘) is 9,000 won. You may also order only the cold soybean noodle soup. The kongguksu here is also served sweet, so make sure to say ‘no sugar’ upon ordering.
The side dishes are kkakdugi (radish kimchi) and sweet pickled radish. The customers can refill the side dishes from the self-serve table. Water is self-serve too.
Paper cups, sugar, and salt are on the table.
Taepyeongjip’s kongguksu had ice cubes in it. I ordered ‘no sugar’ kongguksu, but the cold soybean soup was still thick, sweet, and nice. The noodle was also firm enough. The portion was big enough too.
