Lotus in Full Bloom: Jeonju Deokjin Park

Since it opened in 1938, Jeonju Deokjin Park has been loved by both locals and tourists. At the center of the park is the famous Deokjin Lake, which dates back to the Koryo Dynasty (918-1392). The scenery of the lotuses blooming over the lake during the summer days has been famous throughout Korea.

*The bridge of Deokjin Park was demolished this year.

Forest in the city

Deokjin Park is loved by both locals and tourists.

Deokjin Park’s lotuses blooming over the lake have been popular among tourists visiting Korea as a major August destination.

The iron bridge, lotus, and music fountain

The iron bridge over the lotus lake is old, but makes great prop for taking pictures of the lotus lake. During the summer lotus season, Deokjin Park is more popular than usual, filled with couples and families.

Lotuses bloom from early July to early August. So this summer, visit Deokjin Park to take beautiful photos of the lotuses in full bloom over the lake.

Music fountain time

Spring and Autumn (April, May, September, and October): 13:30~13:45/15:30~15:45/17:30~17:45/20:00~20:30

Summer (June, July, and August): 13:30~13:45/15:30~15:45/17:30~17:45 /20:30~21:00

Keep this timetable in mind if you’re interested in taking photos of the fountain and the lotuses.

The lotus buds, lotuses in full bloom, and stems where lotuses once bloomed are densely covering the lake. Also, the scent of the lotuses can be rather strong!

Lotus is not only the symbol of summer and Buddhism. The flower also symbolizes innocence. Although the lotus grows in muddy waters, it blooms more beautifully than any other flowers. If you find this impressive, I recommend visiting Jeonju Deokjin Park!

As a foreigner living in korea, adapting to the culture is one of the most difficult challenges. I have been to jeonju in various times. First, as a Korean language student on a cultural trip, we made bibimbap, tried tratitional outfits and had a walk around the different places the city has to offer. The second time I has the opportunity to see how beautiful Jeonju looks at night: couples and families dressing in precious outfits, delicious food and people having a good time.

Great to see that there’s more effort being put to promote Jeonju.

  • mallem k

Jeonju is a great place. I’ve been there a few times with family, friends, and even by myself.

  • mallem k

To fully enjoy Jeonju, I suggest renting a Hanbok and take loads of pictures. Also, don’t forget to try their food like bibimbap and makgeolli

  • mallem k

Im really glad that there are efforts to promote other beautiful cities of Korea! I hope people will focus not only to seoul, jeju, busan, and nami, but also jeonju as a new destination for trips!

  • Bharat

I loved Hanok village! So much to see and so much to do. I feel like I’ve been to many different places in Hanok Village

  • Bharat

The most astounding experience in this otherwise beautiful village was that there where refreshments sold everywhere but the retailers don’t allow you to use their trashbins.

  • Bharat

Public trashbins are rare so these messt spots are the result.

  • Bharat

It’s funny how retailers here don’t consider this their problem.

  • Bharat

This is a reconstructed village where you can dress up in old fashioned clothes and wander around taking selfies.Lots of eating places and souvenir shops.

  • Bharat

Great atmosphere and lots of photo opportunities. You can also hire a scooter bike.
