2025, the Year of the Green Snake, has begun.
What plans have you made for this year?
Here’s to a healthy 2025 for everyone, and may your new year be filled with great moments.
The ongoing cold weather brings snow to Jeonju too, adding to the beautiful winter scene.
Today, I’m introducing winter tourist spots in Jeonju and Wanju that you can enjoy in the city.
| Jeonju winter tourist spot – Geonjisan Mountain Cypress Forest (Campus Trail).
I suggest you visit Geonjisan Mountain Cypress Forest in Jeonju. It’s spread across Deokjindong, Geumamdong, Hoseongdong, Songcheondong, and Inhudong, featuring a scenic trail around Geonjisan Mountain.
Geonjisan Mountain is thickly populated with cypress trees, making it an ideal winter destination for a rejuvenating walk.
Cypress trees emit phytoncides, antibacterial volatile organic compounds that help relieve stress, enhance cardiopulmonary functions, and clean the air, making you feel refreshed and giving you the benefits of forest bathing. [Cited from Wikipedia]
Trees that produce a lot of phytoncides include:
1. Cypress, 2. Fir, 3. Pine, 4. Silver Fir, 5. Hemlock. The highest emission is between 12 PM and 2 PM, so keep this in mind.
The Campus Trail offers a 3,000,000 m² natural landscape owned by Jeonbuk National University.
Situated behind the Korean Sound Culture Center, the Cypress Forest hosts performances during the Jeonju World Sound Festival.
Listening to the birds chirping in the Cypress Forest was like hearing a soothing melody that brought peace to my mind.
On January 1, 2025, I visited Geonjisan Mountain Cypress Forest, where I encountered someone playing the harmonica. The melody filled the forest beautifully, and another visitor was recording it on their phone.
If it snows, I recommend Geonjisan Mountain Cypress Forest as a beautiful spot to enjoy snow-covered scenery.
| Wanju winter tourist spot – Air Village Cypress Forest.
It takes about 30 minutes to drive from Jeonju to Air Village Cypress Forest in Wanju.
If you’re looking to escape the crowded city and enjoy some quick relaxation nearby, Air Village Cypress Forest in Wanju is a great winter destination I recommend.
Located at San 214-1, Jungnim-ri, Sanggwan-myeon, Wanju-gun, Jeonbuk State, this Cypress Forest is a popular trekking spot.
You can enter the address into your GPS and drive there to find the Sanggwan Cypress Forest public parking lot.
You may park in this lot, or drive about 5 minutes from there to reach the Sanggwan Cypress Forest rest area, where parking is also available.
Please note that the parking at the Sanggwan Cypress Forest rest area is limited.
Isn’t the name Air Village interesting?
The village is called Air Village because from above, it looks like a bowl of rice!
If you walk along the forest path for about 10 minutes,
On the right, you will see a store that seems like it could be in a fairy tale, with a variety of menus that catch the eyes of passersby.
Next to the store, there are facilities (benches) for enjoying forest baths, making it an ideal place to feel the refreshing phytoncides during the hot summer.
Today, we have explored the winter tourist attractions, Geonjisan Mountain Cypress Forest and Air Village Cypress Forest.
