Places to Visit in Jeonju: Relaxing in Nature at ‘Cypress Forest’ and ‘Oseongje’

Ideal Spots for Barefoot Walking in the Fresh Early Summer!
- Geonji Mountain Cypress Forest

First, I arrived at Geonji Mountain Cypress Forest, intending to do some barefoot walking behind the badminton court. And I discovered a continuous red clay trail starting from the entrance of Jogyeongdan.

Walking along the deck path, I started my stroll through the Geonji Mountain Cypress Forest Even past 3 PM, the path felt wonderfully invigorating.

This deck path is currently under construction to become a barrier-free trail for those with mobility challenges. Because of this, I soon encountered ongoing construction after a short walk.
I’m really looking forward to this path being accessible to everyone.

Geonji Mountain Cypress Forest is also a popular spot for morning exercises.
During an early walk, you’ll often see groups of people doing exercises to the music here.

Just behind the exercise area, you’ll find multiple large wooden platforms.
These are perfect spots for many visitors to relax and rest in the woods.

Past the platforms, the path connects with a trail ascending from the Jogyeongdan wall.
And just there, you’ll discover an area for barefoot walking within the beautiful Geonji Mountain Cypress Forest Beyond this, deck path construction was in progress to connect the deck path all the way to the Geonji Mountain Forest Little Library.

Some visitors to this forest were walking barefoot while others were relaxing on the rest areas.

As you follow the newly constructed deck path, you’ll soon come across the Forest Little Library.
Both the cypress forest and the library are just a short walk from Jeonbuk National University Hospital.

I left the library, passed the soccer field, walked the back route of the fitness park, and returned to my starting point at the badminton court parking lot.
- Songcheon-dong Oseongje

My next stop in Jeonju was Oseongje in Songcheon-dong.
I chose to stroll along the reservoir’s dike, moving in a counter-clockwise direction.
There’s a circular photo zone on the bank, and in the distance, the roof of the Sori Arts Center of Jeollabuk-do is visible.

What was great about this Oseongje Reservoir was the abundant shelters scattered around.
I saw even more people barefoot walking here.

The Oseongje course isn’t very long, so you can easily complete a full loop in a short amount of time.
For a longer walk, I suggest continuing walk left from the Sori Arts Center of Jeollabuk-do parking lot towards Jangdeoksa Temple.

After barefoot walking at Oseongje,
you’ll be glad to know there’s also a designated area where you can wash your feet.
Given the widely proven benefits of barefoot walking, if you’re seeking a place to heal in nature in Jeonju, I highly recommend exploring Geonji Mountain Cypress Forest and Oseongje in Songcheon-dong.
