Jeonju Travel: A Full-Day Jeonju-Wanju City Tour (Two touritineraries)

Experience this fantastic and affordable one day city tour!

‘Jeonju-Wanju City Tour Bus’ was first introduced in 2024 in order to revitalize tourism and regional economic development by linking Jeonju and Wanju as part of the ‘Jeonju-Wanju WinWin Cooperation Project’.

This initiative is back a little earlier than last year and with more diverse routes.
Unlike the previous city tour, this year features various courses tailored to the season and theme.

Starting at 9:00 AM in front of the main gate of the Jeonju Stadium, Jeonju-Wanju City Tour Bus begins its first itinerary with the Retusa fringe tree railroad and Palbok Art Factory.

You can fully enjoy taking pictures of the freight train passing through the fully bloomed fringe trees under the strikingly blue sky.

Following that, exploring the exhibition at Palbok Art Factory is a great way to ensure you a fulfilling time.

Our second stop on the tour was the ‘Jeonju Arboretum’.
It was a pleasant experience to be able to stroll through the arboretum discovering plants that you don’t often encounter.

Don’t leave the arboretum without visiting the globe-shaped Simple bridal wreath spiraea bushes situated behind the parking lot.
Spiraea flowers grow to about waist height compared to the fringe trees, so you can actually touch the flowers and the wide-open view is breathtaking.
Wearing vibrant colored clothing seems to make the pictures turn out even more beautifully.

Just when I felt quite hungry and thirsty after walking around the arboretum, we moved on to
the Hanok Village.
Lunch isn’t included in the tour. There are bunch of well-established restaurants in the Hanok Village, so you can choose to eat at any that catches your eye.

My lunch break included a visit to the Dongmun Used Book Library and White Western-Style House.
With the aim of sharing and re-examining the value of used books, the Dongmun Used Book Library showcases a collection of books donated by about 30 prominent Korean writers with handwritten recommendations.

Thanks to its location near the Hanok Village, travelers can relax for a bit. You can also browse a collection of around 4,000 books, use laptops, charge your phone.

What’s even better was that they offer fun activities like comics and board games for both children and adults in the basement area.

The White Western-Style House has been repurposed from an official residence into a complex cultural venue.

For celebrating May, Family Month, this place offers special exhibitions aimed at raising awareness of children’s rights including ‘The Playground We Made’ and a ‘Pop-up Screening Room’.
This area is divided into a section conveying messages for adults, an experiential space for children and caregivers to engage with and learn about children’s rights, and themed rooms addressing realities faced by children such as discrimination and war.

Now, we’re heading to our final destination, the Sangkwan Cypress Forest in Wanju.
A guide was waiting for us at the parking lot entrance.

After hearing a short introduction about the history of Gonggi Village, where this cypress forest resides, and the story behind the creation of the forest, we proceeded into the forest park.

I’d always assumed this forest was naturally grown, so I was surprised to learn that it’s actually a man-made woodland where approximately 100,000 trees were planted in 1976 and that it has a deep connection to hot springs.
As you wander along the narrow paths into the lush woods, you’ll encounter the healing forest with its wooden decks and the Top Trail, a towering tree path holding the wishes of many.
I made it as far as the treehouse before turning back, but if time allowed, I would have loved to explore the entire circuit.

Having enjoyed a refreshing and healing time breathing in the cypress forest, we made our way back to the main gate of the Jeonju Stadium, our initial departure point, closing our Jeonju-Wanju City Tour Bus tour.

This tour provided a concise yet impactful way to experience the best of Jeonju and Wanju.
If you’re concerned about transportation or looking for a fantastic value Jeonju trip, the JeonjuWanju City Tour Bus is a great option. Plus, the routes reportedly change slightly every month, so you might find an even more appealing itinerary!
