Jeonju by Foot: A Walker’s Guide to Must-See Attractions

Today, I’ll introduce great spots in Jeonju perfect for relax just beyond the Hanok Village. If you enjoy leisurely strolls or try to explore Jeonju on foot, this guide would be super helpful!

  • Cheongyeonru

The first spot is Cheongyeonru. Perched on Namcheongyo Bridge, this octagonal-roofed hanok pavilion is a representative landmark of Jeonju Hanok Village that almost every Jeonju citizen knows well.

When I visited in the daytime, I saw many people enjoying their leisure time.

Despite the heat, a cool breeze swept by, allowing me to fully savor the moment. The scenery of Jeonjucheon Stream and the entire Hanok Village from Cheongyeonru are truly breathtaking!

On the route from Namcheongyo Bridge to Jeonju Hyanggyo, you’ll find a large swing. Why not take some memorable photos with Cheongyeonru in view?

  • Jeonju Hyanggyo

The second stop is Jeonju Hyanggyo. This historic site served as a national educational institution from the Goryeo and Joseon periods, dedicated to honoring the ancestral tablets of great sages and performing rituals.

Jeonju Hyanggyo is renowned for its picturesque stone walls and ginkgo trees. These ginkgos, symbolizing scholarly spirit, have stood resiliently to safeguard the Hyanggyo for over 400 years.

Jeonju Hyanggyo is famous as a filming site for popular K-dramas like “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’, ‘The King’s Affection’, and ‘The Red Sleeve.’ This place remains an enchanting destination appealing for a visit in every season.

If you ascend the stairs of Manhwaru, the entrance pavilion to Jeonju Hyanggyo, you’ll find a whole new feeling on the second floor.

  • Hanbyeokdang and Hanbyeok Tunnel

This is Hanbyeok Tunnel, famously known as a film set for the K-drama, ‘Twenty-Five, Twenty-One.’ Built during the Japanese colonial era, this tunnel features subtle interior lighting. It’s an active road for cars, so please prioritize your safety when exploring.

Hanbyeokdang is a hanok pavilion situated just above Hanbyeok Tunnel.

The landscape of Hanbyeokdang, one of Jeonju’s Eight Scenic Views, was truly magnificent. I could almost feel the emotions of ancient poets as if Sijo poems were forming in my head. If you’re traveling in Jeonju, I suggest including Hanbyeokdang in your itinerary.

I’ve just shared three beautiful spots around Jeonju Hanok Village. All are within walking distance, so it’s not hard at all to walk between them. Plus, I had fun spotting the location markers on the ground along the way. How about exploring these three spots for Jeonju Hanok Village walking tour?
