Showy Pink Crape Myrtle Flower Blooming in Jeonju Hanok Village and Wansan Park

Every summer, the showy pink flowers of crape myrtle trees bloom in Jeonju Hanok Village and elsewhere in the city. Today, I’ll introduce places in Jeonju to take great photos with the flowers.

Gyeonggijeon Shrine Stone Wall Alleyway (Jeonju Hanok Village)

Jeonju Gyeonggijeon Shrine is home to the royal portrait of Taejo, the founder of Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897). Every July~August, the crape myrtle flowers bloom over the stone wall surrounding the shrine. The gorgeous crape myrtle flower and hanok building together are the best backdrop to taking photos.

If you’re taking portrait photos here, I recommend using vertical frame instead of horizontal frame. If you want something more sentimental, you can focus on how the light enters through the flower petals or you may do close-up shots of the petals that fell on the black roof tile.

Wansan Park

Wansan Park is renowned for the splendid scenery of spring flowers like royal azaleas and cherry blossoms.

However, every August, crape myrtle flowers bloom in Wansan Park. Like a flower tunnel, crape myrtle flowers bloom over the wooden stairs that leads to the top of the park. You’ll love the scent of the flowers.
On the top, there’s a pavilion. You can enjoy the cool breeze and the view of the flowers blooming all over the hill.

Jeonju Hyanggyo (Jeonju Hanok Village)

Jeonju Hyanggyo (the Confucian School) is located in Jeonju Hanok Village. It’s about 15 minutes away from the Gyeonggijeon Shrine on foot. The main (biggest) building hosts the memorial tablet of Confucius. Next to the building, there’s a giant 300-year-old gingko tree. Jeonju Hyanggyo in summer is famous for the crape myrtle flowers. The two crape myrtle trees in front of the main building are in full bloom around late July.

The pink crape myrtle flowers are making a stroll around Jeonju Hanok Village and Wansan Park more enjoyable. I particularly love it when the flower petals fall on the black roof tiles. I really recommend visiting Jeonju Hanok Village and Wansan Park to take great photos while this summer flower is blooming!
